Environment
The National Marine Mammal Foundation’s Environmental Program assesses the impacts actions have on the environment including air and water quality, fish, birds, mammals, sea turtles and invertebrates. The program develops “Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements” to create sustainable solutions, maximize environmental benefits, and mitigate environmental impacts. The program assures that projects comply with current federal, state, local and tribal regulations including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act. The Environmental Program also focuses on the acoustic impacts to marine environment and physical, chemical and biological effects on water quality.Environmental Sounds

Sound and the Marine Environment
Within the world’s oceans, the only form of energy that travels efficiently is sound. Even radio and other electromagnetic energy waves are attenuated (weakened) in water at a much greater degree than sound. (more) >>

Water Quality Standards
Water quality standards are the foundation of the water quality-based pollution control program that is mandated by the Clean Water Act. Water quality standards define the goals for a water body by designating its uses, setting criteria to protect those uses, and establishing provisions to protect those uses. Beneficial uses of water serve to promote the economic, social, and environmental goals of mankind. (more) >>
