The Coll Perske Memorial Fund for Marine Mammals was established to honor the life and legacy of Coll Gordon Perske (1985–2014), a dedicated marine mammal advocate, caregiver, and researcher whose work focused on improving the health and welfare of pinnipeds, particularly California sea lions. Coll’s passion for animals, science, and education continues to guide the Fund’s mission and impact.
The Fund supports marine mammal research, conservation, and education initiatives that promote animal health, advance scientific knowledge, and foster responsible stewardship of ocean ecosystems. A core focus is the Perske Pinniped Health Project, which promotes research and innovation in veterinary care, husbandry, and welfare practices that benefit both wild and managed populations of marine mammals.
In addition to research, the Fund is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of marine scientists. Through scholarships, grants, and training opportunities, including SCUBA certification support and university-based awards, the Fund helps students gain hands-on experience and access to careers in marine science and conservation.
By investing in research, education, and community partnerships, the Coll Perske Memorial Fund for Marine Mammals ensures that Coll’s legacy lives on through meaningful, lasting contributions to marine mammal health and the people working to protect our oceans. Your donation promotes ocean stewardship, science, and education in Coll’s name.
